De acuerdo con una transmisión de «Radio Vaticana» del mediodía de este lunes, el arzobispo siro-católico de Mosul, monseñor Basile Georges Casmoussa, ha desmentido que se haya producido la liberación de los dos sacerdotes, secuestrados el sábado pasado.

«Los dos sacerdotes están aún en manos de los secuestradores», confirmó.

El prelado también informó de que está a la espera de contactos directos con los delincuentes.
La emisora pontificia, el domingo, expresó igualmente su pesar por «el enésimo atentado contra la Iglesia en Irak que comparte los sufrimientos de su pueblo, pero que ve a los cristianos cada vez más marginados».

En sus micrófonos, el obispo auxiliar de Bagdad de los Sirios, monseñor Jean Benjamin Sleiman, denunció: «La situación de los cristianos en general, católicos y no católicos, sigue siendo siempre muy precaria, pero también peligrosa».

«El cristianismo en esta zona verdaderamente está desapareciendo –subraya monseñor Sleiman–. La gente se marcha: lo que le sucede a uno atemoriza al otro, así que prefieren irse», e «Irak corre peligro de transformarse en una sociedad invisible, porque si esto se hace con el “leño verde” –que son los cristianos, pacíficos–, ¿qué harán con los que no lo son y donde los conflictos son todavía más graves y violentos?».

Los secuestradores han aumentado el rescate a pagar: ahora es de un millón de dólares.

Según parece, ambos habían recibido cartas amenazantes desde hace dos meses, “aconsejándoles” que dejaran la zona o serían atacados.

Magnífico. Pero luego tenemos a los estudiosos musulmanes mandando cartas al Papa para que haya paz en el mundo que no son si no una llamada a la dimitud. Es curioso que hagan esto después de que Benedicto hablase contra la represión islámica como ya escribí aquí.

Pero hay más noticias interesantes desde el Vaticano. Se está celebrando una cumbre entre Iglesias Católicas y Ortodoxas para intentar una aproximación. Pues bien, la Iglesia Ortodoxa rusa, se ha ido de las conversaciones porque “estaban también presentes los delegados de la iglesia ortodoxa de Estonia, que se declaró independiente del Patriarcado Ecuménico ruso, un estatus que éste no reconoce”. Ahora bien, tenemos que recordar que el Patriarca ruso expresó su voluntad de una alianza con los musulmanes, señalando que “sólo las religiones tradicionales podían dar una respuesta apropiada a los desafíos de este tiempo”. Pero no puede aguantar dialogar con un ortodoxo, incluso cuando no los hayan reconocido. Perspectiva muy curiosa

Magnificent. And then there are Muslim scholars sending notes to Pope, that cannot be considered but as a call for dhimmitude. It is curious this come after Benedict spoke against Islamic repression as I wrote here some weeks ago.
